East Coast Prep improved its record to 2-0 with a 56-29 win over Western New England
University. Trailing 7-0, ECP QB, Jay Kastanin (Needham, Needham, MA) handed off to Damon
Phillips (East Orange, East Orange, NJ) who ran the ball into the endzone for a score. Josh
Bertrand (Fayetteville Manilius, Syracuse, NY) scored the PAT. Bertrand would score 4 more
PATs during the game. ECP’s next drive began with Kastanin’s long run. Peter Bibby’s (Bishop
Hendricken, Johnston, RI) rushing touchdown tied the score 14-14. QB Chase Vaughn’s (Milton,
Milton, MA) 16-yard pass to Bibby put the Firebirds ahead 21-14. Avery Powell’s (St. Peter’s
Prep, East Orange, NJ) 50-yard punt return set up the next score for ECP. Damon Phillips ran for
14 yards to score for ECP giving ECP a 28-14 lead. Kameron Robbins’ (Holy Trinity, Long Island,
NY) long scamper resulting in a score on the next play. QB Coleman Teasdale (Centaurus,
Lafayette, CO) handed off to Robbins for the next score. Matthew Whitney (North Kingston,
North Kingston, RI) scored the PAT to put the Firebirds up 35-14 in the second quarter. QB
Kastanin’s 40-yard pass to Luke Jones (Deerfield, Deerfield, IL) once again put the Firebirds in
scoring position. Joe Fontana’s (Southington, Southington, CT) ten-yard rushing score and
Whitney’s PAT in increased ECPs lead to 42-14 at the half.
In the third quarter, Kastanin’s handoff to Phillips resulted in a 28-yard run for a touchdown.
Taking WNEU’s kickoff Crawford Contave’s (King Phillips, Wrentham, MA) 80 yard return put
the Firebirds in the red zone. Kastanin’s TD pass to Leon McKiver (Middletown, Middletown,
NY) would be East Coast Prep’s final touchdown. PAT by Whitney.
The defense shut out the opposition in the second and third quarters. Defensively, Emeril
Mitchell (Winslow, Sicklerville, NJ) and Demetrius Sequeria (Brockton, Brockton, MA)
recovered fumbles. Fontana led the special teams with 4 tackles.
East Coast Prep is in action again on Sunday, September 18, when they travel to play FCS power
Sacred Heart University at 1:00.
